In a heartwarming display of inter-community solidarity, Alhaji Mamadou Bailo, National Chairman of the Fula Association and leader of the FOUTA Cooperation, presented a substantial donation to the Bility United Muslim Disables Organization (BUMDO). The generous gift, which included 45 bags of rice and a Mercedes Benz van, highlights the growing spirit of collaboration among Liberia’s Muslim organizations to support vulnerable populations.
The donation ceremony, held on 23 September 2025 at the Fula Association’s headquarters in Via Town, UN Drive, Bushrod Island, Monrovia, drew representatives from both groups. The event underscored a shared commitment to uplifting disabled individuals and promoting Islamic values. BUMDO, a registered not-for-profit organisation in Liberia, empowers disabled Muslims through aid, psychological and spiritual counselling, and fostering respect for all God-fearing people. Central to its vision is the construction of the BUMDO Islamic Peace City, a dedicated space providing holistic support for its beneficiaries.
A Commitment to Broader Humanitarian Efforts
Speaking during the event, Alhaji Bailo highlighted the Fula Association’s dedication to humanitarian work. “We are proud to stand with BUMDO in their noble work,” he said. He also pledged to lobby for additional supporters to fund housing units designed for visually impaired individuals, widows, the disabled, widowers, and imams across Liberia. This initiative aligns with BUMDO’s long-term goals of creating sustainable living solutions for those in need.
In a stirring call to action, he urged the wider Muslim community to rally behind BUMDO. “Every Muslim has a role to play in helping this organisation thrive,” he stated, invoking principles of unity and compassion central to Islamic teachings.
Strengthening Lives Through Partnership
BUMDO has long been a pillar of support for its members, operating a robust monthly distribution programme that provides bags of rice to those in need. Beyond food aid, the organisation runs a comprehensive feeding scheme, offers financial assistance, and has constructed housing units to promote stability and dignity. These efforts address immediate hardships while building a foundation for long-term empowerment, particularly for disabled Muslims who often face marginalisation.
The donation arrives at a pivotal moment as BUMDO accelerates work on the Islamic Peace City project. The Mercedes Benz van will enhance the organisation’s mobility for outreach, counselling sessions, and aid deliveries, while the rice will directly benefit dozens of families. BUMDO’s leadership expressed profound gratitude, noting that such partnerships exemplify the “ummah’s” strength in adversity.
Building a Stronger, Inclusive Liberia
As Liberia continues post-conflict recovery and community integration, initiatives like this donation underscore the vital role of ethnic and religious organisations in fostering peace and inclusion. The Fula Association, known for advocating on behalf of the Fula community—including national recognition and cultural preservation—has once again demonstrated its commitment to cross-group alliances. BUMDO remains steadfast in its mission to create an inclusive space where disabled Muslims can thrive spiritually and socially.
